Who we treat and howHearten House specializes in mental health and trauma-focused therapy for adults.
Our clinical model is experiential and embodied, meaning the work engages the nervous system, the body, and relationships, so we can help when people might not have the emotional capacity to articulate.
We treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex and developmental trauma, relational difficulties, grief and loss, life transitions, attachment injuries, and the effects of adverse childhood experiences. While we have significant experience treating substance disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, we do not have a substance use primary focus, which makes us a strong referral option for clients whose primary presentation is mental health and trauma.
Our methods include psychodrama, somatic approaches, EMDR, brainspotting, sandtray therapy, creative arts therapy, movement, yoga, breathwork, and group psychotherapy. These are not add-ons. They are the clinical model, delivered by clinicians trained specifically in these approaches.
Hearten House is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider. Our founder, Aimee Hadfield, LCSW, CP, PAT, is one of only three board-certified psychodramatists in the state of Utah.
We are not a generalist practice. We are a specialized center for people who need more than talk therapy alone can provide. That specificity is what makes us a strong referral partner.
Our levels of care + options
Outpatient Therapy
What this is: Ongoing individual, couples, or family therapy. Weekly or biweekly sessions with an assigned primary therapist and the opportunity for adjunctive sessions with providers who have other specialties.
Good referral fit for: People who need consistent therapeutic support, and are stable enough for weekly outpatient care.
Outpatient Groups and Group Psychotherapy
What this is: Ongoing clinical groups with a clear purpose. Experiential, action-based, and trauma-informed.
Good referral fit for: People who would benefit from relational healing in a group context and can function adequately in group situations.
Outpatient Groups and Group Psychotherapy Intensives
What this is: Ongoing clinical groups with a clear purpose, or longer weekend group intensives. All are embodied experiential, action, and expressive based, and trauma-informed.
Good referral fit for: People who would benefit from relational healing in a group context and can function adequately in group situations.
Therapy Intensives
What this is: Multi-day concentrated individual, couples, or family therapy. Full-day or multi-day format. Generally not covered by insurance.
Good referral fit for: People who need more depth than weekly sessions allow. They may feel “stuck” or as if something they’re working on seems to stay just below the surface. Intensives generally have a specific focus area. Potential participants must be motivated for intensive work.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
What this is: 3 to 5 days per week, 9 to 18 hours per week. Mental health and trauma primary. No substance use focus required.
Good referral fit for: People who need more structure and support than weekly therapy can provide (including skills, psychoeducation, and case management). They are likely functioning but struggling, and not requiring inpatient level of care.
What Happens After You Refer
We want the referral process to feel like handing someone off to a colleague, not dropping them into a system. Here is what your client can expect after you refer them to Hearten House.
1 We reach out within one business day
Someone from our admissions team will contact your client to schedule an initial conversation. We will let you know when we have made contact if you request that.
2 We verify insurance benefits (if applicable)
We verify your client's insurance benefits and walk them through their financial responsibility before any commitment is made. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid.
3 We complete an intake assessment
Your client will complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment with one of our clinicians. We use this to develop their treatment plan and confirm the right level of care.
4 We keep you informed
With your client's consent, we are glad to communicate with you about their care. We can send progress updates, coordinate care, and reach out if anything clinically significant arises that warrants your attention.
5 We refer back when appropriate
When your client completes a higher level of care with us and steps down to ongoing outpatient therapy, we will work with you and the client, and refer them back to you to continue care, arrange for ongoing outpatient therapy at Hearten House, or coordinate a warm handoff to a new provider.

Absolutely, and we think it’s vitally important to do so. With your client's consent, we are glad to communicate with referring providers about treatment progress, clinical updates, and transition planning. We want referral relationships to feel collaborative rather than one-directional.
-
When a client completes a higher level of care and steps down to outpatient therapy, we are glad to refer them back to you or coordinate a warm handoff to another provider. Discharge planning begins at admission, and we take transitions seriously.
-
Hearten House is a mental health and trauma primary practice. While we have experience with substance use, we do not offer substance use treatment as a primary focus due to the lack of primary mental health IOP treatment in our area. Accessibility is important. Clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health presentations are often great and appropriate fits depending on the clinical picture and ASAM risk rating, and we would love to discuss.
-
Hearten House uses an experiential, embodied clinical model with psychodrama at its center. Every group is action-based rather than talk-based. Our IOP is mental health and trauma primary without a substance use focus, which is rare in this region. We are one of the only fully experiential-based outpatient mental health treatment centers in the area.
