Abi Durham
Meet Abi Durham, MSWi
Abi Durham (she/her) has a warm, empathetic presence and a knack for making even the hardest moments feel a little lighter. Abi is an advanced practicum therapist intern at Hearten House and is completing her Master of Social Work at Utah State University. Abi blends her lived experiences with a deep commitment to advocacy and healing. She’s the kind of therapist who will celebrate your wins, sit with you in your struggles, and help you co-create a path toward growth and resilience—all while sipping on one of her three essential beverages (hydration, fun, and energy!)
Specialties and Methods
Abi specializes in working with adults, trauma survivors, LGBTQIA+ individuals, women, and people living with chronic illness. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in trauma-informed care and guided by an intersectional feminist and multicultural lens. She integrates a creative mix of EMDR, Experiential Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to meet participants where they are and help them move toward healing and wholeness.
What She Brings to the Table
Abi’s passion for this work stems from a deep love of humanity and her own journey as a queer woman and trauma survivor. She knows firsthand the vulnerability and courage it takes to show up for therapy, and she’s dedicated to creating a space where participants feel safe, seen, and empowered. Guided by values of authenticity, social justice, and accessibility, Abi helps participants uncover their strengths and explore what life can look like beyond trauma and grief.
Why Hearten House
Abi found her way to Hearten House in the most serendipitous way, and she’s thrilled to be part of a space that prioritizes the well-being of both participants and therapists. Having experienced the limits of traditional talk therapy, Abi is passionate about the embodied, experiential, and expressive methods Hearten House uses to reimagine mental health care. She aligns her work with Hearten House’s mission by fostering authentic, participant-centered relationships and supporting whole-person healing.
When She’s Not in the Therapist Role
Outside of the therapy room, Abi can be found crafting something creative, belting out tunes on her piano, curled up with a good book, or trying her hand at a new recipe. She’s also a firm believer in beverage diversity, loves a good TV binge, and dotes on her two adorable poodles.
